Reports from NOTWITHMYMONEY
"A Guide For Evaluating John York's Subsidy Request" April 10, 2007
Our first report. It examines, in a Q and A format, the Yorks now discredited "Economic Activity Report," distributed to the public for the first time on April 6, 2007.
"Since There Is No Economic Benefit To Santa Clara..." April 16, 2007
A report on the Yorks and their consultants self styled "independent" analysis of economic benefit. The fallacies, qualifications and omissions of the Yorks presentation are identified and explained.
"To the Ballot We Shall Go" April 25, 2007
You'll cringe when you read this report. Your elected officials use terms like "doable" and "not as scary as I thought" to describe a $160 million subsidy request they hadn't even seen. Our City Council is either clairvoyant or, well....
"OK, Miles, Let's Debate" April 26, 2007
We get a kick out of self important insiders who tell residents how to conduct ourselves, and end up hoisted on their own petard. In this case, Miles Barber, publisher of the Santa Clara Weekly cautions readers on April 25, 2007 from relying on mere opinion, and commands that all residents need to study the "facts" in the Yorks subsidy request (presented April 24, 2007) before reaching a conclusion. Ok, fair enough. However, we publish the contents of a City staff email revealing that Mr. Barber was on record as favoring the Yorks subsidy since February 5, 2007, and more. Doh
"Great News!" May 9, 2007
Birth date of NOTWITHMYMONEY.ORG. Let us vote, secrecy and ethics promises not kept.
"The Yorks Tell A Whopper" May 10, 2007
So wrong on so many levels. This is sick. Had to be reported, but we took no joy in reporting it.
"Crushed By Hype: How Greed, Ego and Ignorance Combine to Con Santa Clara Residents" Chapter I, The Beginning May 18, 2007
How money, a few "insider" residents and special interests outside our City "work the con" on Santa Clara residents through an only too accommodating City Council. A continuing series of periodic reports based, in important part, on records obtained under the California Public Records Act.
"Crushed By Hype: How Greed, Ego and Ignorance Combine to Con Santa Clara Residents"
Chapter II, Off the Record, On the QT, and Very Hush-Hush June 4, 2007
The second chapter of our continuing series exposes the secret negotiations between your Mayor and Santa Clara Councilmembers with the 49er owners a full year before your City Council promised you that any stadium proposal would be transparent to the residents of our City. Alternately depressing and slap-stick, it is what happened.
NOTWITHMYMONEY'S Ballot Proposal June 14, 2007
To ensure residents, and not insiders, have the final say on using your money, property or debt to subsidize the billionaire Yorks.
City Manager's Letter Confirming NOTWITHMYMONEY'S Ballot Proposal on Agenda June 18, 2007
Pro? Anti? Undecided? We can all agree that the largest subsidy proposal ever considered by our City should be decided by the residents who will be paying for it. Our ballot request will be heard at the next Council meeting immediately following the City Consultant's Feasibility Report. At this time, it appears the Report may be presented sometime between the end of July and end of September, 2007.
"If a Football Stadium Is Such a Good Deal, Why Don't the Billionaire Yorks Want to Own It ?" June 20, 2007
Because the 49ers' owners make $30 million in additional revenues while residents make nothing...or less. All you need to know about the economic loser that is a professional football stadium and what it means to your family.
